What do the terms Light Duty, Standard (Medium) Duty,
& Heavy Duty mean?
These terms describe the three most common duty classifications
of coiled pins. Coiled style pins expand the parameters of spring
pin usage. The advantages of coiled pins are enhanced by the variety
of styles within the coiled pin family. Light, Standard, and Heavy
are the foundation on which other coiled pins are built. As their
names imply, each duty is more appropriate for some situations
than for others. Users should refer to the MINIMUM DOUBLE SHEAR
LOAD rating for relative strength of mechanical performance for
each duty classification. Light Duty offers the least double shear
value and is appropriate in soft and malleable materials and where
loading isn’t much of a issue. The terms Standard and Medium
are used interchangeably. Standard duty pins offer excellent double
shear values and can be used in a wide variety of applications.
Heavy duty pins have the greatest double shear values and can be
considered for applications where shear and shock loads are high.
